Venus Nguyen...my cousin

My cousin Venus has followed after the footsteps of her parents, and is now competing in body building type competitions. They have a fitness component to them, so its not all just show. Before her March competition I photographed her in the studio when she was in pretty fit conditions and painted all tan! Pictured is also is Mischa, her boyfriend.

Sunset from the Jasmine Roof

Working on my computer all afternoon in my living room, the sky at one point turned really pink....so I quickly ran up to the roof to find a beautiful sunset. LOVE LOVE those few minutes right before the sun dips below the horizon line.

YMCA Shoot this week

I worked on Monday assisting Brazilian photographer Marcelo Coelho. We were at the YMCA in Montebello (south east LA) photographing classes all day. Turns out they have a community garden as well! They were so kind to give me those carrots in this photo that this kind man pulled out of the ground. So tasty when fresh! They shared their butter and red leafed lettuce as well. Photo shoots always bring interesting situations. Its not every Monday morning you wake up to watching a senior pool work out, Asian women line dancing and collecting fresh garden produce.

Friday night and apple pie

Last night I avoided taxes once again, this time by making an apple pie. I tried taking pictures of the pie process...but in the end the shot of the dishes turned out best!

Outside of Park City, Utah

Two weekends ago a few of us from LA made the trip to Rachel Vincent's family cabin just outside of Park City, Utah. It was so beautiful up there!! ...plus I got to try the snowmobiles out in the "ranch." I must admit I love to drive cars pretty fast, so it was fun to check out my comfort level on a new form of transportation on foreign terrain. Here are a few of my favorite shots. Rachel is on the snowmobile, while Jeff is setting up his huge kite board, and I am featured all bundled up trying not to freeze. :) Enjoy!

CLOUD 9

I got in my car and shamelessly chased the clouds....clouds and LA do not happen at the same time, well at least the big puff beautiful ones. With all the rain we got, there was one evening I was just in heaven. Turns out, one cannot escape the LA landscape in trying to capture these moments. I really tried. I drove around for a while and ended up in East LA, never to get higher than the reach of the power lines. I have staked better locations now in case the miracle happens again!

Where were YOU on the day of the inaguration?

....I was with Wendy at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles and watched the inauguration at the outside jumbo screens. It was a great experience to share this historical moment with the public...especially in LA. Towards the end of the ceremonies I kept thinking...how can I best capture this day in history that would make it unique and memorable. I couldn't help but notice the plethora of Obama tshirts--and that was the answer! Create a documentation of the tshirts worn by the attendees. It was a blast! Wendy and I ran around meeting everyone we could. People were quite proud to show off their choice of tshirt to my point-and-shoot documentary. Its fun to finally have a blog up to share my findings. Enjoy!

La Skyline from my Roof

Every once in a while, from my apartment roof, you can see the downtown LA skyline (about 10 miles away). About three times a year you can see the mountains past it! It was quite the treat to find when the mountains were unveiled for the first time in 2009 that I could get palm trees and snow capped mountains in the same shot! For point of reference, just to the left beyond the edge of the image (looking further west) is the Hollywood sign. With my point and shoot I just couldn't quite get it all.

Fisler Family Jan 2009

Our immediate family hasn't been together in two years. The first weekend in January we all finally were able to get together, as well as celebrate new little Elizabeth Henderson into the family! Of course this means lots of family photos going on...these are a few of my favorites. Shooting pictures of babies is a challenge...yeah for digital. I wish I lived closer to little Elisabeth! This little one will never know she had baby acne...love love Photoshop!
